  • Superintendent Search Continues, Public Interviews March 16th

The AEA Co-Presidents and Secretary met with the firm (McPherson and Jacobsen) that is screening candidates for the position. The leaders conveyed to Dr. Walt Cooper (with the firm) the value of selecting a cohort of candidates that have the needed educational leadership experience to lead a large school district.

A few key areas for which AEA advocated included recruiting more teachers of color to adequately reflect the student population, improving existing public schools rather than supporting additional charter schools, and implementing a salary schedule that provides for consistent pay increases that reward years of service and educational attainment.

The firm has held four public forums and released a survey. AEA members are encouraged to continue to reach out to the school board. The candidates will present “public interviews” at the School Board meeting on March 16th. The candidate is expected to be hired by and announced at the April 6th School Board meeting.
